Keep Your Pets Safe!

Prudence marks her 5th birthday with a generous gift for Rescued Pets Movement

Did you know that March is Pet Poison Prevention Awareness Month? As pet lovers, we do everything we can to keep our furry friends safe, but some everyday household items can pose serious dangers to them. Knowing what to keep out of reach can prevent accidents and save lives.

Here are a few common toxins that can be extremely dangerous for pets:

Grapes & Raisins

Even a small amount can cause kidney failure in dogs.

Xylitol

This sugar substitute, found in sugar-free gum, mints, and some peanut butters, can cause a dangerous drop in blood sugar and liver failure in dogs.

Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, etc.)

Highly toxic to both dogs and cats, leading to stomach ulcers, kidney failure, and other serious complications.

Sago Palms

Every part of this plant is poisonous, especially the seeds. Ingestion can lead to liver failure and even death.

Lilies

Extremely toxic to cats! Even licking pollen from their fur can cause fatal kidney failure.

What to Do in an Emergency

If you suspect your pet has ingested something toxic, don’t wait  seek help immediately. Contact your veterinarian or call the ASPCA Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 for guidance.

Spread Awareness!

Sharing this information can help prevent tragic accidents and keep pets safe. Be sure to pet-proof your home and share this with fellow pet parents!

Why I Foster…

We started fostering after our personal pets all passed as we hope to travel extensively. Fostering fills the void when we are home and our goal is to fill them with love before their journey. It’s always hard to let go but the posts from other fosters make you know that you are not alone. Plus, there’s always another to help. RPM has made such a difference for Houston area animals. I always feel supported and heard.”
