Pets and Fireworks
Dealing with fireworks as a pet owner can be a tricky thing. Here are some tips to make things easier for you and your pet.
- Make sure pets are wearing a collar and tags with up-to-date information
- Check microchip registration
- Exercise your pet early in the day before parties begin
- Keep your pets secure inside your home; dogs can escape even secure fences when scared
- Keep them busy with kong treats, toys, and other comfort items
- Do not let them outside in the yard without a leash on! The majority of animals that get out during fireworks have “never escaped before.”
- Give them a safe place to hide
- Turn on ambient noise, calming music, or the television
- Try calming treats, CBD oil, thunder jackets, and other vet-approved calming methods
Remember to have fun, but most importantly, be SAFE this summer!

Why I Foster…
“We started fostering after our personal pets all passed as we hope to travel extensively. Fostering fills the void when we are home and our goal is to fill them with love before their journey. It’s always hard to let go but the posts from other fosters make you know that you are not alone. Plus, there’s always another to help. RPM has made such a difference for Houston area animals. I always feel supported and heard.”
